Our search for a classic car

The search began in 2019 after a year of researching, reading about and watching numerous videos on classic cars.

With classic cars becoming more valuable by the week as they become more rare we knew we had to move fast and ramp up the search. With Brexit looming, our opportunity to buy from the UK was closing in as there had been a lot of talk about a no deal Brexit.

So in September 2019 we set sail across the Irish Sea to Holyhead to begin our search. As we faced into hours of driving across Wales to Datsun’s hidden in sheds for many of years, we know it would be difficult but exciting challenge.

That is when we met Phil, the owner of the above Datsun 240z Samuri. This 1971’s car has a story attached to it which made it more unique than the others.

One of 70 cars which had an engine upgrade and built by Spike Anderson, a successful race car driver back in the 1970’s, is only of approx. 30 cars left in existence in the world.

This particular 240z was used in Brands Hatch for many of years as a pace car on the track. Leading out the race cars at the beginning of races, ensuring the track was safe and the drivers had warmed up their tyres before the race commenced.

Packed with history, a story and proved it stood the test of time we knew this was the car for us! So on Saturday the 2nd of November 2019 we set sail back to the UK to pick up our purchase. As the chapter of Phil’s story with the car was coming to an end, it was only beginning for us.

After a long day of travelling, by road and by sea we got the car home safe and sound. Let the late nights of sanding, stripping the car out and preparing it for its full makeover, to bring it back to its former glory.

This was the start of the real adventure, Chapter 1.
